Canton Veterinary Hospital Keeping Pets Healthy

Update on CIV (Canine Influenza Virus) Acres Mill Protocol

As of now we have had no known cases of CIV at our facility.  We are taking the following measures to try and reduce the risk of contamination of our patients and facility:

  1. If within the past 2 weeks (14 days) your pet has been to another boarding, daycare or shelter facility, we will not accept it for grooming, boarding or "drop off" vet services.
  2. If your pet is showing any of the symptoms listed below, we will not accept it for grooming, boarding or "drop off" vet services.
  3. If your pet needs to come in for an appointment for any of the symptoms listed below, we will be more than happy to see your pet.  If any of the symptoms are sneezing or coughing in nature we will most likely make your appointment at the end of the day and there is a possibility that your pet will be seen outside.  Please call before entering the building if your pet has an appointment for any of the symptoms listed below.
  • a soft, moist cough or dry cough
  • lethargy/lack of energy
  • reduced appetite
  • sneezing
  • mild to high fevers (103ºF to 106ºF)
  • discharge from the eyes and/or nose
  • thick nasal discharge (usually caused by a secondary bacterial infection)
  • clinical signs of pneumonia, such as increased respiratory rates and effort

Veterinary Hospital Providing Wellness Exams, Surgical Care, and Vaccinations

As a pet owner, the best gift you can give your pet is the gift of good health. Preventive care and vaccinations are the safest, most effective way to keep your pet active and healthy for life. Our veterinarians recommend an annual wellness examination. During this exam, we will check your pet's vital signs, perform a full physical and administer diagnostic tests for parasites and worms. We will also ensure that your pet is up to date on all vaccinations. Many vaccinations, such as rabies, require an annual booster.

Due to our in-house lab, advanced diagnostic procedures and state-of-the-art surgical suite, we are able to offer an elevated level of service to pets and their owners. Our veterinary clinic's lab services include blood work and stool sample testing. Results from fecal testing can be ready immediately, allowing our veterinarians to make an informed diagnosis. We also have digital radiographs, echocardiograms and abdominal ultrasound to assist during surgery. Our veterinary clinic offers routine surgery, including spay and neuter operations, as well as advanced orthopedic surgery.

Canton veterinarians provide vaccinations and preventative careAs pets age, they require additional preventive care to stay healthy and active. Our vet recommends semi-annual checkups for senior pets. The earlier we are able to diagnose a health condition, the more treatment options we have available. In many cases, such as the onset of arthritis, we are able to manage the condition through natural care without the need for surgery. We also offer holistic care services, including acupuncture, for enhanced pain management.

As part of our commitment to animal welfare, our animal hospital works closely with local rescue shelters to provide affordable and compassionate care for pets in need. In gratitude for the commitment that service members and first responders make to our nation, we are proud to offer a special military and first responder discount.

At Acres Mill Veterinary Clinic, we pride ourselves on being advocates and providers of your pets' best health, through exceptional care, knowledge, and service. What exactly does this mean? We have a passion for delivering the best veterinary care possible, and have experience in treating thousands of pets and discussing health care with their owners.

We strive to provide you with the best service possible. Whether it's employing the most competent and friendly staff, expanding our knowledge through continuing education courses, using the latest technological equipment to diagnose and treat, or simply making an extra phone call to check in on your pet, service is first in our minds.
