Grooming FAQs

How often does my dog need groomed?

Dogs generally need groomed once every 30 to 90 days if they reside mostly indoors and have short to medium length hair. Dogs with long hair or dogs that spend the majority of their time outside need groomed more often. Our groomer can tell you how often your dog should be groomed at your first appointment.

How often does my cat need groomed?

Cats are usually pretty good at grooming themselves. However, if your cat has long hair or is elderly, it is a good idea to schedule regular grooming sessions in order to keep your cat's fur at a reasonable length and to prevent matting. Your cat also needs groomed if he or she gets into something particularly sticky or gross.

What grooming services do you offer?

We offer shampoo and conditioning services, flea dips, trims, nail clipping, ear cleaning and hair brushing.  If you need a particular service or specific haircut, please let our groomer know when you bring your pet for his or her grooming session.

Can my pet still be groomed if he has a rash or a skin problem?

It depends on the rash or skin problem. In general, pets with sensitive skin and rashes can still be groomed. Our groomer looks for signs of infection and skin problems prior to the grooming session and pays special attention to those areas so as not to further irritate them.

What happens if my pet has fleas?

If you pet has fleas or ticks and you are aware of the situation. Simply ask for a flea dip along with your regular grooming. The flea medications we use kill fleas and ticks instantly. If your pet is not on a regular flea and tick medication, our veterinarian can recommend one for you.

Why should I have my pet professionally groomed?

Pets need regular baths and grooming in order to feel and look their best. Pets with medium to long hair need groomed in order to prevent mats. Excessive matting can make it difficult for your pet to move, they and can trap, dirt debris and bacteria next to your pet's skin.

Does your veterinarian groom pets?

We have a dedicated groomer that works closely with our veterinarian. If we find skin problems, infections, fleas, ticks or odd lumps, our groomer will consult with our veterinarian, and you will be informed of anything we find.

Should I have my pet shaved for the summer?

Pets do not generally need shaved for the summer. A trim and a thorough hair brushing is enough to keep your pet cool during hot summer days. However, if your pet is excessively matted or dirty, we may recommend shaving.
