Pain management is just as important for dogs and cats as it is for you. No animal wants to live its life in pain. Thankfully, there have been advances in veterinary medicine that allow for the successful management of your pet’s pain. Post-surgery, accident, injury and arthritic pain can all be treated so that your beloved pet can live a happy and active life.

General Pain Management

Pets cannot tell you they are in pain, so you have to be vigilant in looking for changes in behavior and sudden or subtle injuries. One of the most common pet injuries is arthritis and back pain. Pets with arthritis may be stiff in the morning, reluctant to play and hesitant to get up after lying down. An injured pet may limp and reject being touched, and depending on the injury, blood may be present.

If you suspect your pet is in pain or injured, please schedule an appointment with our veterinarians in Canton for a complete physical evaluation and diagnosis. There are several options for pain management for your cat or dog, including pain killers as well as diet changes..

Pain Management after Surgery with our Veterinarians in Canton

Pain management after surgery is very important, even when the surgery is completely routine such as in the case of spays and neuters. Just because your pet sails through his or her surgery does not mean treatment is over. There will be some home care needed, including providing pain management and looking for any unusual signs and symptoms in your pet or at the site of the surgery.

There are several pain medication options available for your pet, including anti-inflammatories, opioids and steroids. Our veterinarians in Canton will explain all of the options to you during your visit and explain how the medications are administered.

We can successfully help you manage your pet’s pain and improve the quality of life for your pet. We also caution you against using pain medications that are designed for humans. Advil, Tylenol and aspirin can be toxic to dogs and cats.

For more information on managing your pet’s pain or to schedule an appointment with our veterinarians in Canton, please call 770-479-1905.
